Fitch Ratings-Jakarta/Singapore-19 April 2010: Fitch Ratings has today said in a new report that the global economic downturn in 2009 has had little impact on most Indonesian banks. Fitch-rated Indonesian banks put in a steady performance in 2008 and 2009 as above-average core profitability (compared with banks in regional markets) helped offset the impact of higher provision charges of around 3% in 2009. Above-average profitability also reflected superior net interest margins (NIM) aided by deposit rates declining faster than lending rates in 2009. PRESS RELEASE
Standard and Poor's (S & P) today (March 12, 2010) upgraded Republic of Indonesia’s long-term foreign currency rating to BB from BB-, and long-term local currency rating remained at BB+. Outlook for both ratings is positive. With the rating upgrade, now Indonesia is 2 notches closer to investment grade, and positive outlook also indicates that Indonesia has big possibility to be upgraded in one year.
In his press release today, the main sovereign analyst for S & P Indonesia, Agost Benard, said that the main factor supporting this decision is steadily improving debt metrics and growing foreign currency reserves which reduced vulnerability to shock with continued cautious fiscal management.
